It Was the Best of Time… It Is the Best of Times…
Happy New Year friends and readers! I hope 2025 is going to be an amazing year for everyone. It’s that time of year again, when people are making resolutions, what are yours?
Personally, I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, partly because, like most people, I will forget about them in a month or so.
What I do have is goals. Short term goals that will last as long as they are needed. The good ones I don’t even have to write down. The writer Stephen King said, “Don’t make notes, the good ideas will stick around.”
One thing I am starting the new year with is gratitude.
For so many things, for my health, my mobility to travel around the country and the world, and for wonderful readers like you who like my work.
As I write this, after six weeks at my writing retreat, by myself, in the woods of New Hampshire, I am now off on another adventure. Still back east, I am heading south, trying to skirt a snow and ice storm threatening the middle of the United States.
As a friend of mine questioned my whereabouts, he said he wondered “Wherever the wind blew me.” I thought that was poetic and appropriate, maybe that should be the title of a future book?
Rather than focus too much on goals, accomplishments or possessions, this year I hope to just focus on ‘Being.’
Being happy, being more aware, being there for others, being in the present. I try to remember the phrase; “The past is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that’s why they call if; The Present.”
What are your goals for this year? Let me know in a comment below.
